Moon 1

In the eight panels below you have a set of "observations" of Jupiter and its moons. The moon you are interested in, in this set of panels, is the leftmost moon in all but the last two panels. In the last two panels the inner of the two moons to the left of Jupiter is the relevant moon.

Measure the distance from the center of Jupiter to the position of the moon (you may find it easier to print these images out and measure on the paper). For conversion to angular units use that the diameter of Jupiter in these images is 1.1 arcminutes.

The panels have been constructed to represent observations of the moons of Jupiter (that is, they are not real images of the Jovian system). How can you tell that these images are forgeries?
