LMC Extinction Retrieval Service.

Specify coordinates for the search center, and a search radius in arcmin. You may also choose to retrieve only "cool" stars (T ~ 6 x 103 K), only "hot" stars (T > 1.2 x 104 K), or both sets of temperatures.

Please reference Zaritsky, Harris, Thompson, and Grebel, 2004, AJ, 128, 1606 if you use these values in your research and for details of the procedure.

There are various caveats, described in the reference, to the use of these estimates. First, the extinction values are highly uncertain for any one stars (therefore, values are only reliable is one incorporates a number of stars). Second, we find small spatial scale variations in reddening are common (therefore, the extinction measured in one location is not necessarily the same as that in an adjacent location). Third, we find significant (measureable) effects due to the position of an object along the line-of-sight (therefore, this too can lead to misleading reddening estimates inferred by this method). Fourth, the distribution of Av at any position is highly non-Gaussian (therefore, the mean extinction, which we provide, may not capture the aspect of interest - and so we also provide the list of values for individual stars in the selected region).
